Today the Greece foreign minister Dora Bakoyannis has announced that Greece will put VETO on the permanent membership of the United States of America in NATO unless USA change its name to "United States of Central North America".
"Greece is consistent. The same way we've vetoed FYROM's (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) NATO aspirations, because we are the only nation who has the right on the name 'Macedonia', it's hisotry and it's territory, we are also putting a VETO on the FBCOA (Former British Colony of America) who are claiming the rights to use the name 'America'", said MS. Bakoyannis on today's press conference.
She advanced that the territory of FBCOA covers less then a half of the North American continent, which is actually just one of the two existing continents named that way.
"We are deeply worried on the usage of the name 'America' from the Former British Colony of North America, which by using this name is bluntly implying it's territorial pretensions towards it's neighbors.", explained Bakoyannis.
She also added: "The leaders of this country with population of 300 million, insist to call their country 'America' despite the fact that name is part of the native American culture and history for thousands years in the past", further more asking, "Was Pocahontas an Anglo-Saxon?".
The United Nations mediator Matthew Nimetz is trying to find a solution for the "name issue", which will be acceptable for the both sides, and will let USA to stay a NATO member. The UN representative Matthew Nimetz gave several proposals, including "Democratic United States of America", "New United States of America", and the "United States of America (Washington DC)", which were all declined by the government in Athens.
Yet, the Athens government continues to insist on a complicated name with geographical reference included, which will distinct this country from the greater American region, just the way it insisted on the same claims when trying to persuade Republic of Macedonia to do the same thing.
The president George W. Bush has accepted the fact that on last weeks NATO summit in Bucurest, USA may have lost it's alliance membership if the Greeks were to insists upon it. Further more, president Bush said "The Greek claims might have to do something with our recognition of Macedonia by it's constitutional name, it's people and it's language".
"We will continue to look for a common solution for the USA name issue", said president Bush.
Bakoyannis announced that Athens government is also viewing the option to ask the Great Britain to also change it's name, since there is an administrative region called 'Britain' in France. There are indications that Greece might insist United Kingdom to be renamed to "United Kingdom of Northern Britain and Northern Ireland", if the country wants to stay a member of the NATO alliance. Athens government is yet to formalize this issue.

hahaha... there's something here that I find extremely funny. Whenever there is an article regarding Macedonia, THIS article portrays the points made by Greeks (and notice that I do NOT try to degrade the name of your nation and identity). Now, since the situation is such and the article points out the absurdity of the arguments, the Greeks seem to resolve to the only possible option left. Threats, insults and bigotry.
I find it sad how your arguments are hanging on a thin thread, and when broken you have nowhere else to go but fall into the abyss.

Your country is member in EU almost 30 years.
During that time lot of money are given to you mainly in education,but besides all of that,besides all the great and nobel wishes of your european friends to give you Greeks education,they have fail.

Surely you have a problem with your identity. After all, Greece was invented in 1830.
On the other hand we, Macedonians, know who we are.
We have a consistent name for 7,000 years.
The world has come a long way since we resolved differences of opinions by hurling insults back and forth. Anybody who ever studied geography and history knows that Macedonia was a land, a nation, a kingdom---a place called home by many for thousands of years. The fact that at some point it was divided up between larger, more powerful nations and absorbed into their borders, does not mean that its people cannot regroup and lay claim to what is rightfully theirs. Macedonia has a right to exist, Macedonians have the right to claim their history and patronage, and, more importantly, they have the right to keep the name by which their land has been known for millenia. To think that any government, Greek or otherwise, would dare try to dictate to another sovereign country, is ridiculous. I am a lover of history and culture and, therefore, I really love Greece. However, I find the Greek governments views of Macedonia quite vulgar and brutal---not what one would expect from the birthplace of what we know as modern government and forward thinking. Instead, it serves as a testament to the fact that even great admirable nations can make complete idiots of themselves and render the great achievements of the past obsolete.
What should happen? Macedonia should be restored completely and it's heritage credited and recognized by the international community. If Greece were the only problem, then the problem would have been fixed a long time ago. The other nation members of NATO are also to blame for their indifference and inability to act in good conscience. That said, I am not seeking to insult neither Greek, nor Macedonian, nor any other nationality involved.
P.S. I am not American, Macedonian, or even Canadian. Just an observer from the humble---and largely unknown---western Caribbean.
